SRJC AND NBEAA AWARDED $25,000 GRANT FOR EV CONVERSION PROGRAM -------------------------------------------------------------- Steve Cohen, Dean of Business and Professional Studies at the Santa Rosa Junior College, and Chris Jones, NBEAA Chapter President, applied for and won a $25,000 grant from the AAA Greenlight Initiative to develop a prototype and the cirriculum for the SRJC EV Conversion program. A late model compact vehicle will be converted by students in the SRJC DET 193 EV Conversion Class in 2009 to state-of-the-art EV components including Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries and an AC drive system. The vehicle will then be documented for classroom and lab use in Spring 2010, then shared with the rest of the 109 California Junior Colleges that are interested. NBEAA MEMBERS TEACH SOLAR LIVING INSTITUTE EV CLASSES ----------------------------------------------------- Ed Ristad, SRJC DET 190 Alternative Fuels instructor, taught two introductory EV classes in September for the Solar Living Institute, a one day TR101 "Build or Buy and Electric Vehicle" at SLI's Hopland facility, and a half day "Build an Electric Vehicle" at the West Coast Green Conference in San Jose. Peter Oliver, SRJC DET 193 EV Conversions instructor, taught a five day EV class TR201 "EV Conversion Clinic" at his facility in Santa Rosa. More of these classes are planned for 2009. SONOMA COUNTY COMMUNITY CLIMATE ACTION PLAN ------------------------------------------- The Climate Protection Campaign has published its proposal for a public works project to meet Sonoma County’s bold goal for reducing greenhouse gas emissions — 25 percent below 1990 levels by 2015.
